KAICY TARABYA

Kaicy Tarabya is a distinctive restaurant project that brought together the historical layers of Levantine Mediterranean cuisine with a contemporary approach to interior design and craftsmanship. Located in Tarabya, Istanbul, the interior architecture design and implementation were carried out by Toros and Partners. The project was conceived through a holistic approach that united history, art, gastronomy, and spatial storytelling under one roof.

The brand’s founder, Gamze Cizreli, envisioned Kaicy as a contemporary interpretation of the multilayered heritage of Levantine Mediterranean culture. In line with this vision, Kaicy’s gastronomic approach and spatial language were shaped around the concepts of cultural memory, sharing, and inclusivity, forming the core structure of the space.

In Ancient times, “Kaicy” meant “To you as well” in Greek. During that period, Kaicy mosaics were placed at the entrances of homes to protect against the evil eye and negative energy, while also conveying the message, “Whatever you think or wish, I wish the same for you.” The spatial concept of Kaicy Tarabya translated this ancient meaning into a contemporary context. Mosaics and talismanic details integrated into the flooring were designed as subtle yet powerful layers that narrate the story of the space.

The interior was shaped through high ceilings, arches, olive trees, and natural textures, reflecting the airy, calm, and inviting spirit of Levantine Mediterranean culture. Custom-designed mosaics, finely crafted floor applications, natural materials, and pastel earth tones created a balanced and timeless atmosphere. Textile selections and refined wood craftsmanship brought traditional artisanal practices together with a contemporary interior design language.

One of the most striking layers of the space was the “Spirits Museum” concept, positioned behind the bar and showcasing a rare and extensive collection of spirits from around the world. This area offered guests not only a bar experience but also a discovery-oriented and immersive encounter. In the DJ area, a sun-themed digital artwork, produced through custom software, was positioned as a key design element where technology and art intersect, enhancing the overall energy of the space.

On the façade, specially designed stone craftsmanship created a natural and timeless expression, while the Kaicy logo, reflected onto the surface at night, strongly emphasized the identity of the venue. This continuity between interior and exterior spaces positioned Kaicy Tarabya as a distinctive landmark within the Tarabya silhouette.

The art curation was carried out by Begüm Güney. Artworks displayed throughout the space brought the historical richness of Levantine culture into dialogue with contemporary art. The glass installation by Nahide Büyükkaymakçı, together with works by Aslı Özer, Hazal Haznedaroğlu, Şahika Altınsoy, and Taner Şekercioğlu, strengthened Kaicy’s relationship with art across the interior. Hand-carved Neolonca plates, produced by wood craftsmen in Hatay and inspired by karakılçık wheat patterns, were positioned as an integral part of the spatial narrative, representing local craftsmanship.

Kaicy Tarabya was ultimately conceived as a multilayered space that brought together Levantine Mediterranean culture, art, gastronomy, and architecture within a single, immersive experience.
